Manchester Fire Department Helps Combat Addiction

Manchester Fire Department Manchester Fire Department Helps Combat Addiction 1

It’s no secret that resources in the Granite State for opioid addiction is scarce, especially with the dramatic increase of heroin addiction in the past few years. As a drug rehab center in New Hampshire, GateHouse Treatment is proud to highlight those in our community who are helping many fight the cycle of addiction for residents in the area, and protect our communities from this ever-growing problem with long term drug rehab Connecticut.

In early May, the Manchester Fire Department announced their collaboration with Mayor Ted Gatsas and the Board of Aldermen, Catholic Medical Center, American Medical Response, and Hope for New Hampshire Recovery for the initiative “Safe Station”. As an expansion of the Granite United Way’s 2-1-1 NH service, Safe Station connects those suffering from addiction with drug and alcohol rehab centers to get the help they need through Manchester’s 24/7/365 fire stations.

This program allows addicts to enter any fire station in the city of Manchester at any time, where officers will then be able to assist them in finding the immediate and future medical help they need. As a safe haven, sufferers can come without weapons or drugs to seek the help they need to move towards recovery.

This initiative, as well as others across the country, exemplifies the new approach that is being taken with addiction. With the combined effort of law enforcement, emergency responders, and addiction recovery programs, there is hope to see changes made in all of the New England states moving forward as we continue to fight the battle against opioids.

For those already seeking treatment options for their addiction, GateHouse Treatment is a drug and alcohol rehab center ready to help. Our services include withdrawal relief, relapse prevention, 12-step programs, and sobriety skills.
