ADVENTURE ADDICTION THERAPY

Adventure Addiction Therapy Program

Adventure Addiction therapy uses the unpredictable elements of nature to help patients develop strong personality traits, deal with problems, and improve physical health. Many individuals don’t respond to traditional individual or group therapy because talking about feelings can be difficult without a motivational force. Adventure therapy provides motivation through physical and mental challenges that come with experiencing new challenges.

Why We Use Adventure – Based Addiction Therapy

We realize there are many different modalities of therapy. One of the significant obstacles in early recovery is, “What am I going to do for fun now that I’m sober?” GateHouse has found a way to integrate adventure-based therapy into our addiction treatment plan that gets clients out in nature and shows those in early recovery the value of getting connected with others, themselves and life. Adventure therapy is a distinct form of psychotherapy; it has a variety of learning and psychological theories contributing to its complexity. The main philosophy behind adventure therapy is experiential education. By learning about what they’re doing as they do it, clients develop self-esteem, help-seeking behaviors and increase their ability to help others.

Our Activities

Some of the activities offered in the GateHouse Adventure Treatment Program include:

  • Indoor Rock Climbing
  • Kayaking
  • Hiking
  • Rope Courses
  • Paddle Boarding
  • Survival Day

Trained professionals lead all activities that clients participate in, and all activities are supervised by the GateHouse staff. At GateHouse, we want to give each client the opportunity to fall in love with life again, to relive or experience things for the first time and learn different outlets for self-care. The activities in the adventure therapy program tie the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the GateHouse recovery process altogether.
